Straight talk first. We always check a lesion is a genuine skin tag before we remove anything - and if it needs a second opinion, we'll say so.
Skin tags are small, soft, harmless growths that hang from the skin - often on the neck, eyelids, armpits or anywhere skin rubs. We remove them by cauterising, freezing or a quick surgical snip, chosen to suit the tag and its location.
It's a medical procedure, so it always starts with a face to face assessment to confirm what we're treating.

Numbing if needed
For larger tags or a surgical snip, we apply local anaesthetic so the area is comfortable. Smaller tags with cautery or freezing often need little or none.

The tag is removed with cautery, cryotherapy or a fine surgical snip. Each one takes moments - you may feel a brief warmth, pinch or cold sensation.

Straight back to your day. Expect a small scab or mark where each tag was - keep it clean and dry, and let it heal on its own.

Most skin tags are gone in a single visit. What follows is simple healing at each treated spot - here's how it usually goes.

Straight away
The tag is gone. You may see a small scab, mark or slight redness at the spot, and feel mild tenderness for a short while.

First few days
A tiny scab forms and protects the area. Keep it clean and dry, and resist the urge to pick - let it do its job.

1-2 weeks
The scab lifts naturally to reveal fresh pink skin underneath. Larger or snipped tags can take a little longer to settle.

Longer term
Once a tag is removed it won't grow back in that spot. New tags can appear elsewhere over time - those can be treated individually if they bother you.

- ✓ Keep each treated spot clean and dry
- ✓ Let any scab form and fall away on its own
- ✓ Wear SPF 30+ over healed areas to reduce marking
- ✓ Follow any dressing or aftercare instructions we give you
Avoid
- × Picking, scratching or rubbing the scab - it can scar or delay healing
- × Makeup, harsh actives or scrubs on the area until it's healed
- × Hot baths, saunas, steam and swimming for a day or two
- × Sunbeds and direct sun on fresh spots while they settle
One important thing: we never remove a lesion we're unsure about. If anything looks like it needs a medical opinion, we'll refer you rather than treat - your safety comes before convenience.

Does removing a skin tag hurt?
Most people find it very tolerable. Smaller tags treated with cautery or freezing feel like a brief warmth, pinch or cold sting. For larger tags or a surgical snip, we numb the area with local anaesthetic first so you shouldn't feel the removal itself. Any tenderness afterwards is usually mild and short-lived.
Will it grow back or leave a scar?
Once a skin tag is fully removed it won't grow back in that exact spot. New tags can develop elsewhere over time, which isn't a sign the treatment failed. Marking is usually minimal - following your aftercare, avoiding picking and using SPF all help the skin heal as neatly as possible.
Can you remove it in one visit?
Usually, yes - most skin tags are removed in a single appointment, and we can often treat several in one sitting. First we confirm each one is a genuine skin tag. If anything looks unusual or needs a medical opinion, we'll pause and refer you rather than remove it.
